Johanna is an associate in Carmody’s Corporate & Business group and a member of the firm’s Immigration practice. Johanna’s practice is two-fold—she counsels clients on corporate and transactional matters and she assists employers and individuals in navigating the U.S. immigration system. Johanna represents a wide variety of clients, ranging from publicly-traded utility companies and large regional healthcare systems to individuals and closely-held companies.
In her corporate practice, Johanna represents public and private companies in all aspects of their operations, from entity formation to strategic transactions such as mergers and acquisitions. Johanna works closely with businesses drafting and negotiating formation documents, operating agreements, commercial contracts, and purchase and sale agreements.
In her immigration practice, Johanna assists employers and individuals in filing nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petitions. She handles a wide range of employment-based petitions, including H-1B, L-1, O-1, EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3 petitions and applications. She also provides strategic advice to clients preparing PERM labor certification and J-1 waiver applications. In addition, Johanna handles family-based immigration cases and U.S. citizenship matters, such as I-130 petitions, adjustment of status applications, petitions to remove conditions on residence, and naturalization applications.
Prior to joining Carmody, Johanna practiced at Davis Polk & Wardwell and Covington & Burling in New York City. During law school, Johanna was awarded the Herbert R. Reif Prize for her Note: Asylum at Last?: Matter of A-R-C-G-’s Impact on Domestic Violence Victims Seeking Asylum, 101 CORNELL LAW REVIEW 4 (2016). She was also an Articles Editor for the Cornell Law Review, and is proficient in German.
