We wish to remind you that property owners will receive a notice of valuation in the mail from the Assessor’s Office in early December 2017. The notice will provide the property owner with the prior assessed value, new assessed value and the percentage of growth or decline. The notice will also list the estimated growth or decline of all taxable real estate as a result of the revaluation.
Municipalities in Connecticut conduct revaluations every five years. The revaluation determines the property value for assessment purposes until the next revaluation year, so a successful appeal of the revaluation year assessment will affect the property taxes for five years. The following municipalities were scheduled to conduct revaluations in 2017: Ansonia, Berlin, Bethel, Bozrah, Bristol, Canaan, Cromwell, Danbury, East Haddam, East Windsor, Farmington, Glastonbury, Goshen, Granby, Guilford, Naugatuck, Newtown, North Canaan, Orange, Plainfield, Preston, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Simsbury, Southbury, South Windsor, Sprague, Stamford, Sterling, Stonington, Warren, Waterbury, Waterford, Wilton, Winchester and New Britain.
If you would like us to review your property’s current assessment and advise you of your options for pursuing a tax appeal, please contact any member of our Real Estate group.
