Overview

Amanda Nugent’s practice is focused on commercial litigation, with particular emphasis on commercial breach of contract, business torts and unfair trade practices actions in both the state and federal courts. Amanda represents and advises commercial clients of all types, from individual entrepreneurs and small family businesses to large national corporations, banks, and publicly regulated utilities. Amanda’s thoroughness, thoughtfulness and responsiveness to client needs make her a strong advocate on behalf of clients in all stages of litigation as well as at the negotiating table.

Amanda is also the Co-Chair of the firm’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team alongside Carmody’s Managing Partner Richard L. Street. In this capacity, Amanda works with Carmody’s Labor & Employment Team on client matters relating to claims of discrimination and harassment in the workplace, including conducting workplace investigations. She also offers clients assistance and advice in developing their own diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and trainings drawing on her knowledge of the applicable State and Federal legal standards and DEI best practices.  In each of these roles, Amanda consistently strives to provide high quality assistance and advice to Connecticut’s business community.  She is also deeply committed to fostering increased diversity, equity and inclusion in the law.

Experience

  • Part of a team that obtained a $3 million prejudgment remedy on behalf of a client in a commercial breach of contract matter pending in Federal Court.  Subsequently participated in a 5-week trial of the same matter, which was later successfully resolved through settlement
  • Part of a team that avoided the issuance of a $1.2 million prejudgment remedy attachment of client’s assets in a breach of contract/breach of non-competition agreement case against a national radio broadcasting conglomerate
  • Successfully negotiated numerous six-figure settlements in both pending and threatened commercial collection actions brought on behalf of client that is a public utility
  • Successfully defended entrepreneur in a Federal matter alleging breach of client’s personal guaranty of a $3 million business loan
